Fertile Soil: ROTOM in Ethiopia

Tuesday night, the group got the honor of meeting with Edmund Kenneth Mugayehwenkyi. Kenneth is the founder of Reach One, Touch One ministries.

The elderly under their care receive these services:
  • Regular home visits from ROTOM staff and volunteers
  • Free medical screening and treatment
  • Access to safe, secure, and healthier housing
  • Improve self sustaining income and food security
  • Support with caring for grand children
  • Learn skills to improve their lives
  • Opportunity to hear a clear presentation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ
  • Participate in bi-weekly fellowship days with fellow seniors including
    • Bible study
    • Singing and worship
    • Hot nutritious meal
    • Workshops for improving life skills
    • And many more various activities

.

It was such a joy listening to Kenneth's stories, and I am even more excited to visit ROTOM now (I wasn't sure that was possible!)

Our hope, as a team, is to help implement ROTOM in Ethiopia. This kind of ministry is so desperately needed there. Kenneth and his team have been working on this for a while now, and will begin work in October.

The first year's budget for the  ROTOM Ethiopia Project will be $5,000. This will cover 15 seniors and seed money to work through processes and materials to use for the ministry. It would be great to be able to give a good portion (or the full amount) while we are there.

The ministry is designed for a one to one sponsorship and while we are there, we will hopefully get a chance to visit with the 15 seniors chosen. Their profiles and photos will be sent to Andrea in the next month or so, she will make the packets ready for sponsorship/friendships , then the ministry will be well on it's way and we get the privilege of seeing the early start of this exciting ministry! Wow!

So if you know of anyone who wants to bless the start of this ministry, they can give (tax receipt available) online at http://reachone-touchone.org/give/one-time-giving choose 'other' with a designation of 'ROTOM Ethiopia Project' or also in person. This will need to be done by this weekend, no later than Oct 2, Andrea will be traveling the first week of Oct, so we'll need to get the money processed and a check cut from ROTOM US to bring to our Ethiopia friends. Our God is so good!

I have always been taught to only plant seeds in fertile soil. I am in awe of what ROTOM does, and I am honored by the opportunity to sow into this ministry!

"Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you." James 1:27
